Captain is a player status achieved by purchasing, owning and sailing upon your own ship. Being a Captain brings a number of perks.

Ship owning

Ship purchasing

Any player can purchase their own Sloop, Brigantine or Galleon from the main menu for a cost of 250,000 Gold for a Sloop, 375,000 Gold for a Brigantine or 500,000 Gold for a Galleon. When sailing upon this ship, the owner will become a Captain.

Before you can buy a second ship of the same type as one you already own, you must first earn a Legendary Ship Title for that ship. A Legendary Ship Title is earned for a Captained ship by having it reach Class 50 in any ship Alignment.

Ship naming

Players can choose a name for their Captained ship when they first purchase it. Their chosen name will be used to identify the ship and will appear on the Ship's Crest in-game. A ship's name can be changed from the main menu after having purchased a Ship Renaming Deed for 499 Ancient Coins from the Pirate Emporium.

A ship's name must abide by the following requirements.

  • Must be between 1 and 20 characters long.
  • Cannot contain numbers.
  • Cannot start or end with a space.
  • Cannot use certain special characters.

Ship stocking

Captains or their crew can choose to purchase a preset number of specific resources from the Shipwright Shop, which will automatically populate the ship's Resource Barrels.

Ship restoration

Unlike regular ships, Captained ships will retain battle scars between sessions, keeping scuffs, repaired holes and repaired ship parts for purely cosmetic purposes, having no negative effect on gameplay.

Damages to Captained ships, cosmetic on not, can be removed by the Shipwright or in the "My Ships" tab on the main menu for a small gold fee while the ship is near.

Each time a hole location is damaged, starting from 100 Gold, the restoration cost will increment by 50 Gold until a maximum of 450 Gold per hole location is reached. This applies no matter if the hole is currently damaged, or already repaired with wooden planks. Other forms of damages are listed below.

Damage Cost
Single damage to wheel, capstan or mast 100 Gold
Single repaired damage to wheel, capstan or mast 75 Gold
Fully damaged mast 1,000 Gold
Fire or charring 100 Gold
Water in hull Gold - 2,000 Gold depending on water level

Ship Decoration

Captains can purchase and own additional customisation parts to equip to their owned ships.

Ship saving

Previously, Captains can save cosmetic changes to their owned ships from the Ship Customisation Chest for a small gold fee. Now, the cost of cosmetic changes to their captained ships is now free. Once an item is saved to the ship, it will be equipped by default even between game sessions. The following is a list of costs to save each item prior to the removal of the gold fee.

Trinkets and Flags are saved to the ship automatically.

Cosmetic damage in the forms of scuffs, scars, and repaired damages, as well as Map Table markers, are also retained by Captained ships between sessions.

Trinkets

Main article: Trinkets

Trinkets are decorative items that can be placed in specific locations on a Captained ship by the owner or permission allowed crewmate of said ship. They come in two types, Trophies and Ornaments.

Trophies are earned through leveling certain Pirate Milestones and then purchasing for gold from the Shipwright Shop. Trophy bases can be leveled up through four stages depending on the corresponding Milestone Class reached.

Ornaments are purely decorative models which can be purchased at any time from the Shipwright Shop for gold. Each Ornament can be placed up to five times in different locations on a single Captained ship.

Captaincy tutorial

After players purchase their first ship, the Pirate Lord will take them on a tour of the new features available to them as a Captain. Each new ship purchased after this will have a shortened naming ceremony.

If player is not Pirate Legend

Pirate Lord

(Pirate Lord appears in the tavern)

(Spawning in the tavern)

Ah, Captain! I see you're ready for your next grand adventure.
But before you set sail, there is something we should attend to.
I'll meet you aboard your ship...

(Boarding your ship)

She's a fine vessel, but I'd say she could stand a few improvements. Starting with her name...
Allow me...

(Pirate Lord waves his staff as the ship's name appears on the Ship's Crest)

Much better. She's already starting to feel like home.
But we've more to do. A Captain needs living quarters to call their own.
A place to dwell upon yesterday, and to prepare for tomorrow... Let me show you what I mean.

(Pirate Lord moves to the captain's quarters)

A good Captain keeps a log of all that their ship and crew have been through together. Yours has plenty of pages waiting to be filled!

(Pirate Lord moves to the shelf)

(After reading the Captain's Logbook)

That shelf seems a little bare right now, but a pirate always has a few trinkets stowed away - just the thing to liven up your quarters!

(After placing a Trinket)

There are countless treasures out there just waiting to be discovered. I look forward to seeing how your collection grows!

(Pirate Lord moves to the centre of captain's quarters)

Now to see to the rest of the ship. For that, we'll need the assistance of a shipwright.
Fortunately, help is close at hand. Examine the chest outside their shop and all will become clear.

(Pirate Lord moves to the Shipwright Shop)

(After opening the Ship Customisation Chest)

Once your ship is as it should be, a chest like this can keep everything in its rightful place.
Remember that, and you'll save valuable time when you next set sail.
Better yet, the shipwright will now offer you a range of exclusive services to keep you ship-shape, and provide voyages that only Captains are fit to undertake.
Why not see for yourself?

(Pirate Lord moves to the dock)

(After speaking to the shipwright)

A journey into the unknown is waiting on your ship. Meet me back aboard and I'll help you get underway.

(Pirate Lord moves to the Captain's Voyage storage)

(Boarding your ship)

Here, you'll find all the Captain's Voyages this ship has to offer. All that's left to do is to choose your next adventure!

(Pirate moves to the centre of the captain's quarters)

(After opening the Captain's Voyage storage)

That's what I like to see! A Pirate Captain with their sights set on the horizon.

(Pirate Lord moves to deck)

(After setting sail)

I wish you a good fortune, Captain. Yours is a bright future, setting sail as a Captain of Adventure, with a fine ship to command!
Until we meet again...

You've worked hard to make it this far and built a grand reputation, but today marks a new beginning.
Wherever your journey takes you as a Captain of Adventure, be sure to stop by my tavern and tell your fellow Pirate Legends all about it.

Captain's Voyages

Main article: Captain's Voyages

(Defunct as of 2.10.0)
Captain's Voyages were more compact versions of regular Trading Company Voyages, but were only available to Captains and their crews. They could be purchased from the Shipwright Shop at any Outpost and allowed players to choose from a variety of quest types, and a mix of shorter or more time-consuming Voyages. 50 of each could be stored in a Captained ship's on-board Voyage Storage, and could be voted upon from the ship's Voyage Table.

Milestones

Main article: Milestones

Milestones are infinitely repeatable deeds that have progression tied to the player's pirate, as well as a set for each of a Captain's owned ships. Completing a Milestone's requirement a certain number of times, increases the Class for that Milestone by one. Class can increase infinitely, but cosmetic rewards may be tied to certain Class levels for a specific Milestone.

Sovereigns

Main article: Sovereigns

Sovereigns are NPCs who will take treasure from Captains and their crew, and distribute it among the Outpost Trading Companies for you as a quicker way to sell treasure for the same reward. They can be found in a Sovereign Hut on the far side dock of every Outpost.
