Cursed Cannonballs are special Cannonballs that do not deal damage directly but rather have unique effects that activate on impact. These effects typically affect players, skeletons, and ships by restricting their functions, such as motion or steering, while some may cause damage by Venom or Fire.

Storage

  • In addition to regular Cannonballs, up to 5 total Cursed Cannonballs can be held in a player's inventory at one time.
  • A single Cursed Cannonball can be loaded into any Cannon, signified by a fuse appearing on the front of the Cannon and coloured smoke appearing from its muzzle.
    • The color of this smoke is the same colour as the Cursed Cannonball. Eagle-eyed pirates can use this information to prepare for incoming attacks or even steal a loaded Cursed Cannonball while boarding.
  • Up to 99 Cursed Cannonballs of each type can be stored in one storage space of a Barrel at a time. A single Ship's Cannonball Barrel can carry up to 3 pages worth (i.e. 4752) of Cursed Cannonballs.
  • Up to 20 Cursed Cannonballs of a single type can be stored in one storage space of the Rowboat Chest. A single Rowboat's Chest can carry a maximum of 2 pages worth (i.e. 640) of Cursed Cannonballs.
  • Despite being categorised as Cannonballs, Cursed Cannonballs cannot be stored in a Cannonball Crate

Types and usage

There are three types of Cursed Cannonballs: Green Cursed Cannonballs for use against creatures and players, Purple Cursed Cannonballs for use against Ships, and Ghostly Cursed Cannonballs that replace the projectiles with screaming Wraiths and Phantoms.

Green Cursed Cannonballs

There are 5 different Green Cursed Cannonballs that apply a different immobilizing effect on skeletons or players. Green Cursed Cannonballs have a broad area of effect that can be used on groups or whole ships. If an adjacent ship is in close proximity to the struck target, it may also be afflicted by the cannonball's curse. Green Cursed Cannonballs emit bright green smoke from a Cannon when loaded into one and also emit a faint green light when held.

Green Cursed Cannonballs have a chance to be found in Barrels, Storage Crates or a Rowboat Chest.

The Green Cursed Cannonballs are as follows:

Grogball

These Cannonballs apply the drunk effect on players and skeletons for a few seconds. This effect causes the player's vision to blur, their movements to sway left and right uncontrollably and of course, throwing up. The swaying makes fighting and maintaining a Ship quite difficult.

The in-game model features an icon of a Tankard inside of the cannonball.

Limpball

The Limpball applies a limping effect on players and skeletons, similar to the one gained by falling down from great heights. It simply makes a player move very slowly, not too bad as far as Cursed Cannonball effects go.

The Limpball features an icon of a broken leg bone inside of the cannonball.

Wearyball

The Wearyball makes players and skeletons perform the Sleep Emote for a few seconds, blocking them from performing any actions. This is one of the more dangerous cannonballs to get hit by when trying to repair the ship as it allows holes to let through a couple of seconds' worth of water. It also debilitates the whole crew on board.

The Wearyball features an icon of a small wave below a night sky.

Jigball

Like Wearyball, the Jigball makes players and skeletons perform the Dance Emote for a few seconds, also blocking them from performing any actions. This cannonball is effectively identical to the Wearyball.

The Jigball features an icon of two music notes.

Venomball

The Venomball has the same effect as being bitten by a Snake, causing the Poisoned effect. The screen will turn dark purple and health will start degenerating by 5% every second for a few seconds. This is fairly harmless when you have full health. Dying to this Cannonball also allows the player to receive the Purple light for the Lantern at the Ferry of the Damned.

The Venomball features an icon of a snake.

Purple Cursed Cannonballs

There are 6 different Purple Cursed Cannonballs. These Cannonballs apply different hindering curses on aspects of player ships and Skeleton Ships. Purple Cursed Cannonballs do not deal regular damage and are therefore useless against creatures, and do not damage the hull of a ship. Cannons loaded with these cannonballs emit purple smoke from the barrel while the balls themselves give off a faint illumination when held. Purple Cursed Cannonballs do not affect Ghost Ships, having the same effect as regular cannonballs.

Purple Cursed Cannonballs can rarely be found from Barrels, Storage Crates or a Rowboat Chest.

On impact, the cursed aspect of the ship will be covered in purple smoke to notify the crew of an active curse. Purple Cursed Cannonballs are as follows:

Anchorball

A ship hit by an Anchorball will have its Capstan/Anchor's state switched on impact. If the anchor was up upon impact, the anchor will immediately lower and visa-versa. The anchor can be immediately raised after being lowered by the Anchorball.

The Anchorball features an icon of an anchor.

Peaceball

A ship hit by a Peaceball will have its Cannons raised and locked to the highest position while cursed. The curse will last a few seconds, after which the purple smoke will disappear and the cannons can be readjusted.

The Peaceball features an icon of a cannon pointed straight upward.

Helmball

A ship hit by a Helmball will have its Wheels maximum turn angle locked to about one-sixth a rotation in either direction, centered on where the wheel was at the time of impact. And the wheel will be surrounded in purple smoke, this lasts for a few seconds until the effects wear off and the wheel can be operated normally.

(Ex: If your wheel is turned full left at the time of impact, you can only rotate it about one sixth of the way right)

The Helmball features an icon of a ship's wheel.

Ballastball

Upon impact with a Ship, a Ballastball curses the Ship's Hull for a few seconds, forcing it to sail low enough as to take in water from second-level Hull damage. This means that a Sloop and Brigantine will take in water from holes on the back of the Ship and a Galleon will take in water from mid-deck holes. When timed correctly (i.e. after or before puncturing a Ship full of holes), a Ballastball can be very effective in sinking a Skeleton Ship or a player Ship, especially when they already have untended second-level holes.

The Ballastball features an icon of a ship partly submerged under the waterline.

Riggingball

Upon impact, a Riggingball will curse a Ship's Sails, completely raising each one amidst purple smoke. The sails will be briefly stuck in this state after which they can be lowered again by the crew. If a crew is distracted with repairs, a Riggingball can slow or stop their ship for long enough to board. The Riggingball will also prevent crews from raising broken masts over the duration of its effect.

The Riggingball features an icon of a raised sail.

Barrelball

A Barrelball will Curse the Ship's Supply Barrels in purple smoke, preventing players from accessing the contents until the effect ends. This Ball is less effective against Player Ships if players already have their personal inventories stocked, or well-stocked Storage Crates or Resource Crates.

The Barrelball features an icon of a barrel.

Ghostly Cannonballs

Phantom Cannonballs.png

There are 3 different Ghostly Cursed Cannonballs that shoot out screaming Wraiths or Phantoms from Cannons. These Cannonballs are normally only found inside Cannonball Crates of the Damned that are received as a reward for defeating The Burning Blade during an Order of Souls Ghost Ship voyage.

For the purpose of inventory limits Ghostly Cannonballs are considered to be Cursed Cannonballs, this means a player can carry 5 of them in addition to their standard 10 cannonballs and 5 throwables giving a longer barrage before needing to re-stock.

Ghostly Cannonballs are as follows:

Phantom Cannonball

The Phantom Cannonball is essentially a reskin of the regular Cannonball that shoots green Phantoms from Cannons instead.

The Phantom Cannonball is light blue and cyan with a faint icon of a ghostly phantom inside.

Flame Phantom Cannonball

The Flame Phantom Cannonball acts similar to a Firebomb, having the same properties when loaded into and shot out of Cannons, however, instead of firebombs, they shoot out red ghostly phantoms that cause large fires on impact.

The Flame Phantom Cannonball features an orange and red color with a bright ghostly phantom inside.

Wraith Cannonball

Wraithballs are more powerful than regular Cannonballs, effectively acting like small Gunpowder Barrels when they hit any Ships. A hit Wraithball does splash damage to the Ship, leaving several holes in the Hull and rocking the ship like a Blunderbomb at the same time. It does splash damage to players and can deal damage to both decks of a Galleon.

The Wraith Cannonball is the same color as Phantom Cannonball, but features an outline of a screaming ghostly face in the center.

Tips & Notes

  • Cursed Cannonballs are harder to acquire than normal Cannonballs and should be used sparingly. When used right, Cursed Cannonballs can help greatly in a naval firefight.
  • Cursed Cannonballs cause loaded cannons to emit colored smoke depending on the type of Cursed Cannonball used. It is recommended to fire Cursed Cannonballs immediately after loading to avoid showing your true power to an enemy crew.
  • Player-affecting Cursed Cannonballs can impact teammates if they're within range, be wary when firing upon ships that your crew has boarded.
  • Skeleton ships will always be armed with one specific Cursed Cannonball of either the green or purple types.
    • Skeleton Ships equipped with Green Cursed Cannonballs are often harder and more annoying to fight for less experienced crews.
  • Cursed Cannonballs are ineffective versus Krakens and Megalodons.
