Molten Sands Fortress is a month-long time limited event in Sea of Thieves, taking place during Act 2 of Season 18. It is scheduled to run from January 22, 2026 to (approximately) February 19, 2026 (11:00 UTC). The event offers a special activated World Event that takes place on Molten Sands Fortress
Official summary
Sail as an Emissary, attain Grade 5 and undertake the hunt for an Eternal Guard. Claim victory and the Key needed to activate Molten Sands Fortress!
Emissary Quest
For the duration of Act 2, all actions tied to the Trading Company Emissaries will be boosted, allowing them to reach Grade V at a significantly greater pace.
Upon reaching Grade V, crews can pick up a special, time-limited Emissary Quest from the Trading Company Representative, which will send crews to hunt down an Eternal Guard on a specific Large Island. Defeating the Eternal Guard will award players with the Molten Sands Key. Players can either sell the key to any Trading Company, or sail to Molten Sands Fortress to activate the fort.
Molten Sands Fortress
Note: You cannot activate the world event if it's already active or if the Fort of the Damned is active, for only one on-demand world event can be active at a time.
Once players have the Molten Sands Key, players can sail to Molten Sands Fortress to activate the on-demand world event. Players will have to find a stone altar in the middle of the island, light its four torches, and place the Molten Sands Key in the altar's slot. Once activated, a giant red skull cloud will appear above the fort, signifying that the fort has been activated.
There are 8 challenging waves in the world event, which will have players fight a variety of Skeletons, Skeleton Lords, and culminating with a fight against a mighty Ashen Lord.
Once the Ashen Lord is defeated, it will drop a Stronghold key to unlock the Molten Sands Fortress vault.
