Rats are passive Creatures found on Ships, running between hiding spots. They act as a visual indicator as to when a Ship is taking on water due to a hole in the Hull. Players on the same deck as a moving Rat are able to hear a high-pitched squeaking noise as the Rats dart around. When the Ship's Hull is empty, Rats can be seen scurrying between hiding spots behind Barrels and appliances on the lower deck. As the lower deck starts to fill up, Rats can be seen running up the stairs to the middle deck. Once the water reaches the middle deck, Rats will head up to the top deck to hide behind Barrels or under Cannons, indicating to any crew members on deck that their Ship is nearing sinking. The final warning will be when the Rats begin to abandon ship and jump off the deck into the Ocean below, acting as a last indication to the crew that their Ship will sink if water is not bailed soon.

Possible hiding locations

Rats can be seen scurrying between, behind and underneath a number of Ship locations:

Trivia
