French translation

Hello :) As the game is near its release, I started working on the french translation of the Sea of Thieves wiki. Could you please converte the main page to the french sub wiki ? :) (about me : I'm the Life is Feudal French wikiadmin for now 2 years). Khan fr (talk) 20:20, 17 February 2018 (UTC)

Hi Khan, thanks for all your work! I'll have that main page created for you either tonight or tomorrow (it doesn't take long to do, I'm just away at the moment). In the meantime feel free to join Gamepedia's Slack chat, where you can chat live and request help from myself and other Gamepedia staff, as well as fellow editors: http://www.gamepedia.com/slackinvite . I'll shoot you a message here when that page is done, and thanks again! Equazcion (talk)
Hi, the "Français" link doesn't go to the -fr subdomain "https://seaofthieves-fr.gamepedia.com/Sea_of_Thieves_Wiki" but goes to "https://seaofthieves.gamepedia.com/Sea_of_Thieves_Wiki/fr", same for the portugues page ;) Khan fr (talk) 09:28, 20 February 2018 (UTC)
There is no -fr subdomain right now. Gamepedia doesn't like to create language subdomains until it's been shown that there is enough interest in a language. All languages therefore start out as subpages on the English wiki. Once all of the pages linked from the main page are created and most of their content is translated, I can then request that an actual language subdomain be created. Equazcion (talk)

Deleted edit

Osborne2ezgaming - Hello, I made a edit in the Lone Cove section and I believe it was 100% correct, I am curious as to why it got deleted. I would like to be a regular helper here.—The preceding unsigned comment was added by Osborne2ezGaming (talk • contribs) at 08:43, 22 March 2018‎ (UTC).

You were editing a different page than you thought. You might be looking for this one: Lone Cove. Click the Edit link at the top of that page. Let me know if you have any trouble. Equazcion (talk) 17:40, 22 March 2018 (UTC)

Translation in Spanish

Hello!! I would like to translate the wiki into Spanish. --Alnih (talk) 10:17, 22 March 2018 (UTC)

Great! You seem to be doing a nice job so far. I added an interwiki language link on the main page to your /es page. Let me know if you need any help :) Also consider joining Gamepedia's live Slack chat here: http://www.gamepedia.com/slackinvite . You can chat live there with Gamepedia staff, including me, and other wiki editors. Equazcion (talk) 11:21, 22 March 2018 (UTC)
Thanks for the info :P --Alnih (talk) 15:14, 22 March 2018 (UTC)
I have finished with the translation of the main page and its links. --Alnih (talk) 16:15, 22 March 2018 (UTC)

"Action Identified as harmful" - Sue

Hello,

I was trying to edit the article Sue with her dialogue and a brief description but was given the following message;

This action has been automatically identified as harmful, and therefore disallowed. If you believe your action was constructive, please inform an administrator of what you were trying to do. A brief description of the abuse rule which your action matched is: Disallow certain words in mainspace articles & edit summaries

I've included the attempted edits in a hidden tag here;
Is there any chance you're able to assist, or anything that I might need to change?
Thank you, Kallnohae (talk) 21:21, 25 March 2018 (UTC)

I submitted the edit for you. I'm not sure why it triggered that abuse filter but if you have further trouble let me know. I should note though I'm not sure if we'll be keeping articles around on each individual character -- this Sue page might be merged with Shipwright at some point. In any event, thanks for your contributions to the wiki! Equazcion (talk) 21:27, 25 March 2018 (UTC)
Thank you for making the edit! Perhaps this would be better suited for/moved to a discussion page, but I'm curious as to why we wouldn't want to maintain complete information where possible? The Sea of Thieves team have stated that they are proud of the fact that NPCs each come with their own stories as opposed to templated "shopkeep" NPCs. While I understand that functionally they currently operate the same, I have to question why we would intentionally limit the breadth of our content and/or omit character lore (such as Whitney having made Winnie's eyepatch)? Any input is welcome! Thank you, Kallnohae (talk) 21:55, 25 March 2018 (UTC)
It's for the reason you stated, that functionally there's no difference. Separate pages gives an undue weight to those characters, since their separate back-stories have no impact on gameplay, making the wiki less intuitive -- as we'd be effectively making it seem like they do have some importance functionally. We maintain separate pages for similar game items (like Admiral Blunderbuss and Bilge Rat Blunderbuss) only because they are likely search terms players would enter to determine costs and any possible unique attributes. These individual characters, on the other hand, are not likely search terms. I'm not saying we couldn't include a record of all character dialog, but that can likely be done just as effectively on one combined page for each shop. Having more unimportant pages also means more pages that are likely to become inconsistent and messy as the game and wiki age. Equazcion (talk)
Thank you for your answer and time. One would reason that separate Blunderbuss styles would be better displayed on one page with a gallery, redirects, and disclaimer that all skins carry the same function. And on the other hand, one might say that as the game/wiki age, combining any sort of like-entries (NPC or weapon) onto a single page would become more cluttered and best kept on separate pages. I appreciate your view, though I can't bring myself to agree with the "less is more" mindset. Best of luck to you and your community. Kallnohae (talk) 22:46, 25 March 2018 (UTC)
We've decided to go ahead with the individual character pages as you wanted to do, so feel free to continue with that if you're still interested! Equazcion (talk) 19:26, 26 March 2018 (UTC)
I appreciate the update! In the spirit of this, I've naturally run up to another "Action identified as harmful" issue while trying to add dialogue for Teri. The reason identified for this edit is "Gibberish", though this time I understand the system returning an error. I've added the edit I was trying to add here (). Apologies for stretching your talk page even more. Kallnohae (talk) 05:44, 27 March 2018 (UTC)
I submitted this edit for you, but also disabled the gibberish filter for now so future dialog won't be rejected (hopefully). Let me know if you encounter any more errors! :) Equazcion (talk) 06:07, 27 March 2018 (UTC)
Also wanted to take the opportunity to invite you to Gamepedia's Slack chat, where you can collaborate live with other editors and ask Gamepedia staff for help live: http://www.gamepedia.com/slackinvite . Hope to see you there :) Equazcion (talk) 06:10, 27 March 2018 (UTC)

German Translation and "Gibberish" Problem

1. Doing the German translation right now, already finished a good batch. Could you add the translated one as a selectable language?

2. I get a "Gibberish" error when creating a translated page for the "Quests" page, is there a fix?

3. Is there another way to contact you? (apart from this page; maybe Discord?) —The preceding unsigned comment was added by HeartlCore (talk • contribs) at 17:57, 27 March 2018‎ (UTC).

You can join Gamepedia's Slack chat and chat live with other editors and Gamepedia staff, including myself: http://www.gamepedia.com/slackinvite.
I disabled the Gibberish filter early this morning (about 12 hours ago), so you shouldn't be getting that error anymore.
I'll get the German subdomain started soon and let you know here when it's ready. Thanks for your contributions! Equazcion (talk) 22:05, 27 March 2018 (UTC)
The German site is ready! See https://seaofthieves-de.gamepedia.com . Let me know if you have any questions :) Equazcion (talk) 18:29, 28 March 2018 (UTC)

I do have some questions, yeah... but I don't get an invitation to the Gamepedia Slack, that's why I asked for Discord or something else. HeartlCore (talk) 13:58, 29 March 2018 (UTC)

Well you've got an invite now! Just click the link :) But you can feel free to post your questions here too if you want. Equazcion (talk) 20:01, 29 March 2018 (UTC)

Well, uhm... actually I don't. Where did you sent it to? HeartlCore (talk) 21:57, 29 March 2018 (UTC)

It's above, but here it is again: http://www.gamepedia.com/slackinvite Equazcion (talk) 22:00, 29 March 2018 (UTC)

Ah, that one. I applied yesterday or so, but didn't receive an invite yet. HeartlCore (talk) 22:01, 29 March 2018 (UTC)

If you still haven't gotten any response or acceptance email in another day please let me know, I'll get them to look. Equazcion (talk) 22:08, 29 March 2018 (UTC)

Still no response or acceptance email... :-/ HeartCore (talk) 21:16, 31 March 2018 (UTC)

I just gave them a heads-up about your application. I'll let you know if they tell me there's any problem, but I suspect you'll get a response soon. Equazcion (talk) 22:12, 31 March 2018 (UTC)

Image Upload - 413 Request Entity Too Large

Hello there! When trying to upload images, I'm getting one of two error messages - on most images, I'm receiving "413 Request Entity Too Large" and with smaller images I'm receiving "500 Internal Server Error". With the 413 error, the images I'm attempting to upload are 1 - 2 MBs (.png format), though the upload page says max is 8 MB. Anything under 1 MB gets the 500 error. Not sure if this is Gamepedia general issue or specific to this wiki. Thank you in advance! Kallnohae (talk) 22:43, 31 March 2018 (UTC)

This is a temporary server issue all the wikis are currently experiencing. The tech team at Gamepedia is working on it, please hang tight! Equazcion (talk) 06:05, 1 April 2018 (UTC)

DPL (DynamicPageList) missing or not working

Hi, on the Life is feudal Wiki I used a lot of DPL for automatic updating pages, which could be used here too, but when I try to do any very simple <dpl>, it's not working at all :(
Something is missing but I cannot point out what :( Khan fr (talk) 11:26, 4 April 2018 (UTC)

DPL is a wiki extension that needs to be installed. I just installed it on the French wiki, so DPL tags should now work there. Let me know if they don't. :) Equazcion (talk) 17:52, 4 April 2018 (UTC)
It's working :) Great ! thanks :D Khan fr (talk) 18:37, 4 April 2018 (UTC)

Request for Administrator

Hello,

I would like to apply for an administrative position of the Sea of Thieves Wiki. A lot of pages need renaming or deleting, which I could handle.

Thank you, Wilderscott1 (talk) 23:48, 28 May 2018 (UTC)
