Dive to Location in Sea of Thieves refers to the process of arriving directly at the quest's location instead of sailing to it. It can be chosen upon selecting a Voyage from the Quest Table's menu

The Quest Table

For every regular Trading Company Voyage and for every Tall Tale the crew has the option to save time by diving to the location required to start the quest.

If the quest on the Captain's Table has not been voted on yet, a wooden ship trinket next to the parchment indicates that the player selecting the Voyage has chosen the Dive to Location option.

There is no difference in difficulty or rewards between Sailing and Diving. The former requires additional time needed for arriving at the destination while the latter will cause the ship and crew to resurface on a new and different server.

For Raid Voyages, Diving is mandatory and Sail to Location is not an offered option. Additionally, those types of Voyages reward players with special treasure that can only be found in Raid Voyages.

Diving

After succesfully voting on the Diving voyage, the crew will immediately start their Diving process if following conditions are met:

  • The ship must be on open seas, i.e. far from any islands or sea posts.
  • The ship must not be near any dangers, including other player's ships (approximately 2 map squares away).
  • The ship must not already be at the destination. (As soon as the game detects this, it will cancel the Diving process for good.)

The crew will receive notifications when Diving is not possible.

Treasure on the ship will get lost during Diving. Exceptions are Resource Crates (including Storage Crates and Ammo Crates) but not Container Chests. Upon selecting the Diving option whilst there is treasure onboard, the player gets a warning notification.

A warning prompt if the player decides to dive with treasure onboard.

Crews can initiate a dive only once every 10 minutes. However, succesfully completing a voyage will remove this cooldown.

Quick Travel

By voting on various Tall Tales it is possible for crews to dive to specific locations on the Map if they want to continue their journey in a specific region or area. Especially Tall Tales starting in the Devil's Roar are well-received since spawning at Morrow's Peak Outpost when launching the game is not that common.

After arriving at the desired location, the crew can simply vote to cancel the Tall Tale on the Captain's Table. Cancelling the voyage will give the crew a 10 minute Diving cooldown.

For a list of Tall Tale starting locations, see Shores of Gold and Ashen Age.
