Details

The Horn of Fair Winds is a limited-use tool and treasure in Sea of Thieves. It can be used to summon strong winds to propel a ship, rowboat or player through water at high speed, knock players back into the air, soften a player's landing by negating fall damage, or put out fires.

Usage

Horn of Fair Winds has a limited charge of 1:40 of continuous use, indicated by the glow of the shell spines.

  • Blow: Hold Primary Use to aim the horn and blow a gust of wind. This feature is disabled when charge is depleted.
  • Aim: Hold Secondary Use to aim the horn.

Mechanics

  • The gust hit will dispel fire, billow a sail, and push back Pirates and Creatures.
    • The gust can combine with the Wind to create more ship speed.
  • While you are floating in water, the gust will knock yourself back, effectively propelling you.
  • While you are on a rowboat, the gust will propel it backward.
  • While you are falling, blowing the gust downward will negate fall damage you have accumulated.

Where to find

Lore

According to Tasha, Briggsy once told to her that more "holes" or small "tunnels" are forming between the Sea of Thieves and the Sea of the Damned. Because of that, many ancient artifacts, like the Skull of Siren Song and the Horn of Fair Winds found their way into the Sea of Thieves.

Trivia

  • During development, the Horn of Fair Winds was named "Wind Caller", which was used throughout the Sea of Thieves 2024 Preview Event video from March 2024 that announced the item.
