The Jewelled Rover, also known by her human name Sarah Bates, is a NPC from the Sea of Thieves Roleplaying Game. She was a jewel-encrusted Skeleton Lord who attempted to take over the Outposts of the Sea of Thieves many years before the Burning War.
Lore
Becoming a Skeleton Lord
Sarah Bates, then a modestly successful pirate, was plundering a shipwreck which, unbeknownst to her, was none other than the Burning Blade. From the wreck's many cursed treasures, Bates took with her only the Ashen Jewels: a set of scalding-hot gemstones which fuse with their holder's flesh and slowly transform them into a Skeleton.
Over time, Bates began to notice the effects of the Jewels' curse. She showed scurvy-like symptoms as she gradually transformed into a skeleton, and became so obsessed with the gemstones that, by the time her transformation was complete, she had encrusted her whole skeleton with the cursed gems. She also found that, after her transformation, she could command other skeletons to do her bidding.
Failed Conquest and Death
Not long after her transformation, Sarah Bates--now the Jewelled Rover--took her powers to the sea and attempted to take over the Outposts in a similar fashion to Wanda during Cursed Sails--though unlike Wanda, her plans saw little success. After her defeat by an unknown pirate, her bones were be left to rot in on Sailor's Bounty where they would eventually be discovered by Silas Norridge.
