The Ocean is the primary body of open water wherein all regions of The Sea of Thieves exist.

Features

The Ocean will contain many Shipwrecks, Barrels of Plenty, and is host to seabound World Events such as the Kraken and Skeleton Fleets. It is also the primary source of fish.

If a player lingers too long in the water, one or more Sharks, or even a group of Sirens will spawn nearby and begin to attack. Small schools of fish may be seen swimming about, but they serve only ambient background and cannot be interacted with.

Shallower waters near islands lack the massive waves of the Open Sea and have small coral, seaweed, kelp, seagrass, and other underwater vegetation around them. The boundary of these shallow waters can usually be marked by an island's name banner.

Open Ocean

The Open Ocean lacks a visible sea floor, though an invisible barrier will stop players from swimming down any further after a point. Emergent Skeleton Ships, Megalodons, and the Kraken can only spawn in this deep water.
