The Ancient Priest, also known as the High Priest, is an NPC who can be encountered during the Legend of the Veil during Haunted Island chapters. He will fight alongside players against Reaper Phantoms and reward players with a Veil Stone upon defeating the Soulflame Captain.

The High Priest is notable for being among the first Ancients to appear in-game, with all appearances of Ancients prior being depictions of them in rock paintings and mentions in Journals and dialogue.

Ancient Priest

Before lighting the final brazier:

In the realm untraveled.
Where our ancestors dwell.
Hear our call.
May the worlds be joined once more.
Let the veil be parted.

After defeating the Soulflame Captain:

You fought well.
I sought to reconnect the two worlds once.
I now know they must remain parted.
We must have balance, a world of the living and a world of the dead.
Protect the veil.

Notes

• The Ancient Priest as well as other Ancients encountered during the Legend of the Veil cannot be killed.
  • This fact can be exploited by setting the Priest and other Ancients on fire, letting them perpetually burn Reaper Phantoms and the Soulflame Captain to defeat them with little effort.

Trivia

• Other Ancients refer to the Ancient Priest as the High Priest, possibly connecting him to the High Priest who's failed assassination of and subsequent death by the Great Warrior is described in Mercia's Shrine of Hungering Journals.
