The Journey to Mêlée Island

What are you looking at me for?

I'd like to introduce myself.

I think you just did. So what brings you to my table?
Actually, I'm looking for someone.
I bet I can guess who. All the tourists these days, they only want to speak to one man.
Well, too bad for you — the Governor's a busy fellow. He's got to protect this whole island.
You could try and make an appointment with one of his guards... but I wouldn't recommend it.

This place seems pretty lively.

This is actually a quiet night. Business is booming ever since the Legend of Monkey Island returned.
Most days you cannot move for people telling stories, singing shanties or writing questionable poetry about Governor Guybrush.
What did he do that was so amazing?
Listen, if I get started, we will be here for hours. All you need to know about the Governor is that he is the greatest pirate who ever lived!
Crews come from all across the Caribbean just for a chance of meeting the Legend of Monkey Island, and most of them end up here.
If you want to know more, there is a guy selling books in town — but you'll need more Pieces o' Eight than most folks can afford...

Ever hear of the Sea of Thieves?

Hmm, this does not sound like somewhere I have been. I mostly stick to the Tri-lsland Area. Been pretty much everywhere around these parts.
Well, almost everywhere. They say you cannot get to Monkey Island just by charting a course — unless, maybe, you're the Governor.
What if I told you this wasnt really the Caribbean?
I would say you probably hit your head on the door when you walked in.
It does not matter where you're from. Nobody here will respect you unless the Governor respects you! I'm sorry, that is just how it is.

Where can I get a drink?

A drink? Well, you could wait for the cook to notice you, but that could take all day.
He has been rushed off his feet ever since word got out about the Legend of Monkey Island and pirate wannabes started flooding into town.
He is convinced if he can find the right combination of ingredients, he can create a signature dish so delicious, the Governor will officially endorse it.
Well, I heard he'd hired an assistant, but they never showed up for work. They're probably hiding after setting fire to a whole cargo ship.
Anyway, if you want grog, just find a mug and sneak into the kitchen. That's what we all do.

After defeating LeChuck's guards:

What are you looking at me for?

I met a pirate named LeChuck...

So the rumours are true! Most people around here do not believe LeChuck could be back, but I take it all seriously. Very seriously...
Thank for the warning. I will be staying safe and cosy right here in this tavern until the Governor has set things right.
Listen, this whole LeChuck thing has got me pretty shaken up, so if you wouldn't mind...

I remember you... What brings you back to town?

I want to learn more about LeChuck.

So you heard about what happened at the Governor's Mansion, eh? Finally, someome wh is not afraid to admit the truth. Okay, I will tell you...
This island used to be governed by a woman named Elaine Marley. She was no Legend of Monkey Island, but she was sharp as a tack.
She invited the Dread Pirate LeChuck to her mansion for dinner, and he fell for her in a big way. Tried to impress her by sailong out to find Monkey Island.
When Guybrush Threepwood came into town and met Elaine, ah, it was love at first sight, and LeChuck did not like that one bit.
He and Guybrush have been mortal enemies ever since - except, you see, LeChuck is immortal now, so he keeps showing up looking for trouble.

I need to earn Pieces o' Eight, and fast!

What do I look like, an accountant? Because if your accountant has scars and a big pirate hat, it is no wonder you are poor.
Most of the buried treasure around here was dug up long ago by pirates trying to complete the Three Trials. There is hardly anything left to find.
What about paid work?
Ah there are no Trading Companies here that would offer you a contract. I hear Stan managed to get his hands on a valuable idol, but good luck stealing THAT.
Listen, I don't know what else to tell you. Maybe you should just... I don't know, join the circus, or something?

Those pirates are really heavy sleepers.

With all the extra-strong grog that got poured into their tankards, I am not surprised
You saw that, huh?
I may not look it, but I am the most observant pirate in the room. Maybe that is why I am the only one who is still worried about LeChuck!
Something tells me his crew will still be lurking out there in the forest, waiting for a chance to take their revenge.
I think I will be staying right here in the Scumm Bar until I know Governor Guybrush has dealt with LeChuck once and for all.

How would I get to Monkey Island?

That is an easy question, my friend. The answer is - you wouldn't.
The course to Monkey Island cannot be plotted on any map, and those who do not know the way are doomed to take a plunge to the bottom of the sea.
Sounds like the Devil's Shroud.
The what? Look, what I am saying is that only a handful of pirates know the directions to Monkey Island, and one of those pirates is LeChuck.
I don't think he'd tell me.
And I think you're right. But do not take it personally. The Secret of Monkey Island evades us all...

After freeing Guybrush:

I knew LeChuck was up to no good! Maybe next time people will listen to what I have to say...
