Lore
A Dark Deception
The Journey to Mêlée Island
When the pirates read Elaine's Letter and found some Root Beer Bottles, LeChuck appears before the pirates outside the mansion and explains that the whole act of Guybrush being the "Legend of Monkey Island" and being the Governor of Mêlée Island were part of LeChuck's plan to take over the Sea of Thieves, without the worry of Guybrush getting in his way. He also reveals that he has Pendragon's Burning Blade and he is the impostor Pirate Lord who had tricked the pirates into retrieving said sword.
Seeing that the pirates mustn't interfere in his plan, LeChuck sends his ghost pirates to deal with the pirates while he sails away to Monkey Island. But armed with the Root Beer, the pirates dispatch the Ghost pirates on their way to The International House of Mojo.
The Quest For Guybrush
As the pirates return to Mêlée Island to resume their mission to save Guybrush, LeChuck boards their ship and lets them in on his plans. While disguising as the Pirate Lord, he proposes them a deal: If they don’t meddle in his affairs and swear an oath to him, he promises to make them richer and more powerful than they’ve ever dreamed of.
As LeChuck leaves, the Pirates are unmoved by LeChuck's deal and continue their mission.
The Lair of LeChuck
Once Guybrush and the pirates reach LeChuck's ghost ship deep in the catacombs of Monkey Island, he spots them and sails away, but with the help of Elaine and Kate Capsize aboard the Headless Monkey, Guybrush and the pirates chase down LeChuck through the catacombs, cornering him in a large, lava-filled chamber, forcing him to fight back. Eventually, the Headless Monkey sinks LeChuck's ghost ship with volleys of Root Beer Cannonballs, but LeChuck is able to complete the Burning Blade, and capture Guybrush and Elaine, taking them back to Mêlée Island to orchestrate having Elaine's hand in marriage.
However, his plans were halted by Captain Kate, the Pirate Lord, and the Sea of Thieves pirates. Once LeChuck is down, he loses the Burning Blade, allowing the Pirate Lord to reclaim the blade and take the others to safety. Furious at the loss of the blade and Elaine, LeChuck proceeds to fight the Sea of Thieves pirates in one last round of Insult Sword Fighting. After he is pushed back to the front of the Scumm Bar, the pirates use Root Beer Bottles to spray LeChuck with root beer and defeat him, causing him to explode in a fireworks-like display.
