Sea of Thieves: The Legend of Monkey Island
Sea of Thieves: The Legend of Monkey Island is a free three-part Tall Tale expansion for Sea of Thieves, in collaboration with Lucasfilm Games. The story is based on the Monkey Island series of video games. The three Tall Tales were released as monthly installments with the first tall tale released on July 20, 2023, and the last tall tale released on September 28th, 2023.
The story of Sea of Thieves: The Legend of Monkey Island will take place within the Sea of the Damned, allowing players to experience the Tall Tales without interruptions from other crews.
Story
The story sees players finding and rescuing Guybrush Threepwood, who disappeared while sailing to the Sea of Thieves. Along the way, players will encounter familiar locations and faces from the Monkey Island series, such as Mêlée Island, Murray, Elaine Marley, and Monkey Island.

- Sea of Thieves: The Legend of Monkey Island was announced during the Xbox Games Showcase stream on June 11, 2023.
- The Cursed Captain was a character introduced in the Sea of Thieves: A Pirate's Life series of Tall Tales. This will mark his first appearance outside those Tall Tales.
- The game's title screen during the initial release of Sea of Thieves: The Legend of Monkey Island resembles the cover art for The Secret of Monkey Island, the first installment in the Monkey Island series of games.
- In the Announcement Trailer, the Headless Monkey is featured as a ghost ship galleon helmed by Kate Capsize, with its monkey figurehead restored. It's appearances in the Tall Tales is in The Quest for Guybrush, which can be found at Stan's Previously Owned Vessels, and during The Lair of LeChuck, in which it was used to fight LeChuck's ghost ship.
