The Journey to Mêlée Island

Ahoy there, stranger. New in town?

What is this place, exactly?

Ha ha ha ha! That's the stupidest question I've ever heard!
Humour me...
Why, this is the world-famous Mélée Island™, of course! Home to some of the filthiest rogues and rascals you'll ever cross paths with.
Though if I were you, I'd not stray far beyond the village. The weather's taken an awful turn tonight. A stranger could get lost in that pea soup...
What's in the village?
Oh, plenty of places to spend your Pieces o' Eight, though I'd wager most will be closed at this hour. Except maybe the General Store. That old skinflint never sleeps!
Then there's the old jail, the church... But if ask me, there's nowhere better than this very pub! Why not sit for a spell and soak it all in?

Are you a pirate? Do you have a crew?

Well, I am a pirate. But alas, I am not a captain.
Truth be told, I haven't been on the waves for many a month. It all began when that LeChuck business forced us back to shore.
Who's LeChuck?
Once he was the terror of the Caribbean, roaming the seas on his fearsome ghost ship — until he was scuppered by the Legend of Monkey Island™...
What's the Legend of Monkey Island?
Not what — WHO! I'm talking the most fearless felon to ever don a captain's hat and sail straight into the waiting maw of death itself... Guybrush Threepwod!
Once we heard what had happened to LeChuck, most of us pirates chose to retire. There's no point trying to compete with the Legend of Monkey Island™!

Who's in charge here?

Our Governor is none other than the Legend of Monkey Island™ himself! He keeps this whole area prosperous for his fellow pirates.
His mansion is on the other side of town, but pirates aren't as welcome around there as they used to be.
Why's that?
Because the Governor's a busy man, that's why! Caught up writing his memoirs. It's the most pre-ordered book ever published on Mélée Island™.
Come to think of it, it's also the first book ever published on Mélée Island™... But that just makes it even more exciting! I'm buying nine copies.
You should talk to the important-looking pirates in the next room. If you're to stand any chance of seeing the Governor, they can tell you where to go and what to do.

So what was your name, anyway?

My name is Mancomb Seepgood.
Ever been to the Sea of Thieves, Mancomb?
The what of who? Never heard of it, and I've sailed as far as Dinky Island™. But Mélée Island™ is the place to be nowadays, thanks to the Governor!
Now that you're here, you should relax and take a load off. Uh-oh, looks like my grog is going flat, so you'll have to excuse me.
Grog isn't supposed to be fizzy...
Maybe not on this 'Sea of Thieves' you're so proud of, but in these parts we prefer a beverage with a little extra kick to it. Kerosene, Red Dye Number Two...
If you're brave enough to try some for yourself, we usually sneak ours out of the big barrel in the kitchen. You can join us in a toast to the Legend of Monkey Island™!

After defeating LeChuck's guards:

Ahoy there, stranger. New in town?

Did you hear about LeChuck?

Well, there's a whole big story about how he attacked the village just now, but I don't believe a word of it.
Not even the Ghost Pirate LeChuck would be enough to pick a fight with Governor Threepwood. Not on his home turf!
But if that ever did happen, the Legend of Monkey Island™ would soon put a stop to him, or my name's not Mancomb Seepgood!
You're probably right. I should get going.
Nice talking to you. Have fun on Mélée Island™.

The Quest for Guybrush

Before completing Corina's plan:

Ahoy there. Welcome back to Mêlée Island™!

Everything seems to have calmed down...

If you're referring to that rumour about LeChuck, I still don't believe a word of it, but some folks are suckers for a good story.
They say that LeChuck and his crew assailed the Governor's Mansion, hoping to take revenge against the Legend of Monkey Island™.
Sixty – no, seventy pirates! Each of them eight feet tall, with eyes that burned like the flames of perdition itself...
And one by one, the Legend of Monkey Island™ cut them all down, tearing the last to pieces with his bare hands as he stood atop a mountain of broken bones!
That IS a pretty good story.
Hah! Well, as I say, I don't believe a word of it.

I met with Governor Guybrush!

Oh, really? And I suppose now that you've had your fun, you'll be wanting to try your hand at the fiendish new Legendary Trials and prove you're a real pirate.
You should speak with the Pirate Leaders in the next room. Let them know that you've got the Governor's blessing, and they might just agree.
As for me, I'd love to know... Did you get a look at the Governor's memoirs? Does he... happen to mention me at all?
I didn't get to read them.
Bah! Well, I'm sure he'll not forget his old friend Mancomb. Why, we've known one another since the good old days!
I suppose I'll just have to cross my fingers and wait. Maybe another grog or two will help me pass the time...

Are the Governor's 'guards' all gone?

They are, and no-one seems to know why or where. Estevan's telling everyone they were wiped out by LeChuck's crew of ghost pirates.
What does that mean for the town?
Well, I can't say they'll be missed. Things seem to be carrying on just fine without a bunch of bureaucrats throwing their weight around.
If you ask me, things have actually improved around here. The stores have fresh supplies, the circus is coming to town and the Clock Tower's finally keeping time.
And it's all thanks to the Legend of Monkey Island™!

I met a strange lady in town...

That'll be the International House of Mojo™. Purveyors of potions, vendors of vexing vittles, and the only shop in town that sells those biscuits I like.
The Governor's guards shut the place down shortly after they arrived, and banned all sale of magical ingredients.
Now that they're no longer around, I suppose it'll be back to business as usual!
You'd do well to stay on the owner's good side. They say she can stare into your future...

After completing Corina's plan:

I feel mighty peculiar... Like I've woken from a very long dream. Well, there's only one cure for this sort of thing – more grog!
