A map marker displaying a ship in the Alliance.

Player Alliance is a mechanic in Sea of Thieves that allows multiple ships on a server to share the payout from sold treasure. Ships within an Alliance all sail under the same Alliance pennant flag and have the ability to see each other's ships on the Map Table.

An Alliance only exists during the session it was created and does not carry over to other play sessions.

Forming an Alliance

To form an Alliance, at least two ships must be nearby to each other. One ship must first raise the "Offer Alliance" Pennant flag located in the "Alliances" tab of the Flag Box, then the other ships will be able to select "Join Alliance" from their ships' Flag Box. Alliances are automatically assigned a name and corresponding colored pennant flag.

To leave an Alliance, simply select "Leave Alliance" from the Flag Box. This can be done at any time.

Features

  • All ships on a server may be part of the same Alliance.
  • All ships in the same Alliance are visible to each other on their Map Table.
  • Alliance members can place Voyages on the Voyage Table of other ships in the Alliance.
  • Alliance members can dig up treasures from Riddle Maps and X Marks the Spot Maps belonging to other crews in the same Alliance.
  • When an Alliance is formed with another crew, the other crew members' gamertags will be coloured purple to help identify Alliance members.
  • Alliance crews can still kill, sink, and steal from each other.

Shared rewards

  • Other progress is not shared, with the exception of specially marked, Alliance-focused Commendations.

Trivia

  • You can join an Alliance with a ship that's already sunk. Essentially, if the Alliance pennant is still visible above the water and you are in range to join the Alliance, you can do it!
