Reaper's Chest
The Reaper's Chest is a Reaper's Bones Treasure in Sea of Thieves. The chest is cursed with the Reaper's Mark, allowing it to be tracked on a Map Table by other crews.
Cursed Effects
The Reaper's Chest is cursed with the Reaper's Mark, causing its location to be tracked on a Map Table indicated by a red Reaper's Mark map marker. If the Reaper's Chest spawns on a shipwreck or is dug up, it will emit a swirling beacon of Red and Green light. This beacon will persist even after it is picked up and will follow it wherever it goes. The high value and visibility of the Reaper's Chest will make players transporting them easy targets.
Where to find
The Reaper's Chest can be found from the following sources:
- Random chance to spawn in Shipwrecks
- 0-2 in a completed Fort of the Damned Vault (either Reaper's Chests or Reaper's Bounties)
- Possible reward for various time-limited Mercenary Voyages
- Possible reward from X marks the Spot variants of Skeleton's Orders.
Rewards
Reaper's Chests can be sold to The Servant of the Flame at The Reaper's Hideout for Doubloons and Reaper's Bones Reputation and Emissary Value (if sailing as a Reaper's Bones Emissary). Reaper's Chests offer higher Reputation gains for Reaper's Bones Emissaries than other Treasure.
The following is the reward chart for the sold Reaper's Chest:
Emissary Grade | Doubloons | Emissary Value |
---|---|---|
No Emissary | 25 | 0 |
I | 25 | 10800 |
II | 33 | 14364 |
III | 41 | 18036 |
IV | 50 | 21600 |
V | 62 | 27000 |
Notes
- Picking up and placing a Reaper's Chest on a Ship for the first time gives Emissary Grade Reputation to Emissary Ships representing the Reaper's Bones.
- A Reaper's Chest emits a White Glint from a distance.
- Reaper's Chest can be caught with a Harpoon.
- A Reaper's Chest gives off a low and ominous burning sound.
- There have to be at least 3 Crews in a server for a Reaper's Chest to have a chance to spawn at a shipwreck.
- A Reaper's Chest may spawn inside a random Shipwreck every hour after the server start time. This is a good indicator of global Barrels respawns as well that replenish their contents every 30 minutes. The Chest will despawn with the Shipwreck if they haven't been interacted with for more than a few hours.
- It is possible to find more than one Reaper's Chest in a single Shipwreck.
- Up to 5 Reaper's Chests have been spotted to spawn at the same time.
- Burying a Reaper's Chest will hide its location on the map table.
Trivia
- The Reaper's Chest shares a similar model to the Box of Wondrous Secrets.
- An opened Reaper's Chest could be found on The Reaper's Hideout before the Reaper's Bones Company moved in.
- The Reaper's Chests came out with the Dark Relics (Content Update) and could initially only be sold to Duke as Bilge Rats Treasure in Taverns. With the release of the Reaper's Bounty, the Chests were no longer interesting to Duke and could only be sold to the Masked Stranger at The Reaper's Hideout before the Reaper's Bones set up shop.
