The Box of Wondrous Secrets is one of the Treasure Chests in Sea of Thieves. It is one of the rarest treasures in the game.
Lore
The Boxes of Wondrous Secrets contain portals that were created by Captain Flameheart to send orders to, and receive tribute from, his followers. One of them was later used to defeat Flameheart by Duke and Demarco Singh by using the portals to transport gunpowder into the Burning Blade and then igniting the power with a candle, killing Flameheart, Duke and the skeletal crew of the Burning Blade in the process.
A Box of Wondrous Secrets was previously discovered by Stitcher Jim while he sailed with the Forsaken Shores Alliance. Upon opening the box and looking inside, he discovered its contents were indescribable, driving him insane. In an attempt to deliver the Box of Wondrous Secrets to his employer, The Gold Hoarder, Jim betrayed the Forsaken Shores Alliance, killing most of its members except for Grace Morrow, who survived Jim's attempt to poison her.
Many Boxes of Wondrous Secrets would later be seen in the memories on Shipwreck Bay during the events of Shrouded Islands. Through the memories, The Servant of the Flame and other Reaper's Bones followers could be seen hauling the chests and breaking their seals.
Another Box of Wondrous Secrets was used by Amaranta to communicate with the Dark Brethren in the Sea of the Damned.
Rewards
The Box of Wondrous Secrets can be sold to Grace Morrow at Morrow's Peak Outpost or the The Servant of the Flame at The Reaper's Hideout.
Where to find
The Box of Wondrous Secrets can be found from the following sources:
- Randomly spawned on islands in the Devil's Roar, excluding Molten Sands Fortress, Morrow's Peak Outpost, and Seaposts.
- It can appear both on sand or underwater.
- Chance to dig up from Pop-Up Plunder during Community Weekend events.
Notes
- There are no Commendations or titles related to the Box of Wondrous Secrets.
- The unique Pirate Chat command for the Box of Wondrous Secrets is "Let me tell you a secret!"

- Stitcher Jim exposes in a letter that the box may contain secret instructions on curses.
- The Skeleton Runes on the Box read as follows:
- Front side: "Flame to Heart"
- Right side: "Heart", "Beach"
- Back side: "Flame", "Beach", & "Skeleton"
- Left side: "Beach", "Lord"
- Top side: "Skeleton", "Lord", "To", "Flame", "Beach"
- Note: The runes for "Beach", "Heart", and "Skeleton" appear rotated, and may have another meaning in these instances.
