The Trident of Dark Tides is a weapon and treasure in Sea of Thieves. It can be used to fire bubbles of energy to damage and knock back opponents. It is found in the world rather than equipped at an Armoury.

Usage

The Trident of Dark Tides holds a total of 30 charges. As these charges are used up, the glowing blue crystals will gradually begin dimming, and the trident itself will slowly begin turning gray. Once the trident is out of charges, it crumbles to dust.

You can begin charging the projectile by holding your Primary Use key. Holding Secondary Use will begin aiming the staff without charging a projectile. There is a short delay before a small bubble forms at the end. Continuing to hold the key will make the bubble grow to a medium one, then eventually a large one. The bigger the projectile the slower it will travel. The projectile can be released at any time by releasing the button, though you can cancel it without using up any charges by dropping the trident. The projectile detonates when it impacts terrain, hostile creatures, or enemy players. Firing a bubble also consumes a number of charges, depending on the size of the bubble.

  • Small bubble: 1 charge dealing 30 damage, with little to no blast radius.
  • Medium bubble: 2 charges dealing 60 damage in a medium radius.
  • Large bubble: 3 charges dealing 90 damage in a large radius.

A hidden damage multiplier of around 2,5 is applied against creatures, often allowing one-shots against weaker enemies. (90 damage * 2,5 = 225 damage.)

If the trident only has 1 or 2 charges remaining, the bubble will never grow to a medium or large version respectively.
