The Ancient Chest is one of the Container Chests in Sea of Thieves. The Ancient Chest functions identically to other Collector's Chests, providing mainly a unique appearance. The Chest is acquired as a part of The Shroudbreaker and Stars of a Thief Tall Tales and already has hidden Quest Items Inside.
Where to find
The Ancient Chest can be found exclusively during the following Tall Tales:
The Shroudbreaker: After receiving "The Magpie’s Wing Ship's Log", the location of the Chest is documented in the Tale Book. The Chest can be found submerged in the coasts surrounding one of the following 7 islands in The Ancient Isles:
Stars of a Thief: After receiving the Tall Tale Journal from Sudds, the Merchant at the NorthStar Seapost. The Chest can be found by digging on one of the following 2 islands in the Shores of Plenty:
- Found during each chapter of Legend of the Veil, containing a Veil Stone and Athena's Fortune Treasure

As these Chests are Quest Items, they are found with other Quest Items already inside.
The Shroudbreaker Tall Tale Chest initially contains additional Tale Book pages and one of the 6 Totem Keys.
Notes
- Can be used to carry and transport smaller Treasure Items.
- An empty Ancient Chest can be sold to any of Trading Companies for 250 - 520
, but no Reputation or Emissary Value. - The Ancient Chest can be kept by Players even after finishing the related Tall Tales.
- An empty Ancient Chest can store up to three smaller Treasure Items, such as Trinkets, Bounty Skulls, Mermaid Gems or Dark Relics.
- An empty Ancient Chest can also store most Tall Tale Quest Items.
- An Ancient Chest hides the glow and quells the sounds of the Treasure Items inside, however, the Chest itself can be seen from far away by a white glint typical to Treasure Chests.
- Container Chests are usually used to transport three smaller Treasure Items at one time to save time on turning them in.
- The Pirate Chat Wheel Commands of this chest are similar to other Container Chests

- Players will no longer be able to delete items that are placed inside Ancient Chests while holding another Captain’s Logbook.

- Taking items from an Ancient Chest while holding a Map Bundle should no longer cause the items to disappear.
