Season Three is the third season in Sea of Thieves. It began on June 22nd, 2021 and ended on September 23rd, 2021.

Trials
In addition to regularly earned Renown, the Season Three Trials offer an additional boost of Renown.
Plunder Pass
Purchasing the Plunder Pass will grant players access to Pirate Emporium items and additional Ancient Coins as Season Three Rewards. These cosmetic items are early-access items that will be released at a later date after the Season ends.
Rewards
Base rewards for all levels are available for free to all players, with additional rewards for Pirate Legends and premium rewards for Plunder Pass players.

A Pirate's Life
Sea of Thieves: A Pirate's Life is a collaboration in partnership with Disney bringing Pirates of the Caribbean to Sea of Thieves. Team up with Jack Sparrow through a story campaign, spanning 5 Tall Tales, crossing paths with Sirens, Phantoms, Ocean Crawlers, and Davy Jones.
Gameplay additions
- Sirens, who rise from the depths to drag pirates to a watery grave.
- Phantoms, who fight with fast-paced hit-and-run tactics, and have gained unnatural abilities to further enhance their skills.
- Ocean Crawlers, which come in three varieties, are grotesque monsters that have retained a crew bond and will assist each other in combat, providing a match for even the most skilled of crews.
- The Trident of Dark Tides, a powerful weapon to help out against these new foes.

In-game changes posts to the official Sea of Thieves social media accounts began unfolding during Season Two eventually leading up to the announcement at E3 2021 for A Pirate's Life, included in the release of Season Three.
In-game, Duke, the former Bilge Rat, moved from island to island investigating runes and in search of a treasure he believed would explain certain changes he felt was happening to the world. Every few week Duke would appear at a new island location and offer clues on where to find Rune Tablets which contained translation for previously unknown runes.
Meanwhile official social media channels shared cryptic messages written in the same Skeleton Runes that Duke was investigating in-game. Shared on these channels, too, were images that acted as hints to determining the proper translation of individual runes so that the cryptic messages could be deciphered.
