Update chronology

Season Nine is the ninth season in Sea of Thieves. It began on March 16, 2023 and was scheduled to last 16 weeks, ending around July 2023. The schedule timer was first silently extended by an additional four weeks on June 8, 2023 seemingly pushing the end date to roughly early August 2023, however, an announcement on July 26 communicated another extension, pushing the anticipated launch of Season Ten to be on October 19, 2023^[1].

Seasonal Progression

Trials

In addition to regularly earned Renown, the Season Nine Trials offer an additional boost of Renown.

Plunder Pass

Purchasing the Plunder Pass will grant players access to Pirate Emporium items and additional Ancient Coins as Season Nine Rewards. These cosmetic items are early-access items that will be released at a later date after the Season ends.

Rewards

Base rewards for all levels are available for free to all players, with additional rewards for Pirate Legends and premium rewards for Plunder Pass players.

The Legend of Monkey Island

Sea of Thieves: The Legend of Monkey Island is a free three-part Tall Tale expansion for Sea of Thieves, in collaboration with Lucasfilm Games. The story is based on the Monkey Island series of video games.

The first Tall Tale, The Journey to Mêlée Island, released on July 20, 2023.
The second Tall Tale, The Quest for Guybrush, released on August 31, 2023.
The last Tall Tale, The Lair of LeChuck, released on September 28th, 2023.
