The Speaking Trumpet is an Equipment Item in Sea of Thieves, used to amplify or quieten the voices of Player Pirates
Mechanics
The Speaking Trumpet was first introduced in The Hungering Deep Update, and could be obtained after you slayed the first Megalodon named The Hungering One.
These days, every Player Pirate acquires a Speaking Trumpet during their Maiden Voyage, which they can use at any time during their adventures on The Sea of Thieves. The Speaking Trumpet can be accessed from the Equipment Radial Menu. The Cosmetic design of the Player's Speaking Trumpet can be switched at Equipment Chests. These designs can be purchased from Equipment Shops and only change the visual appearance of the Instrument. Players can check out their own Speaking Trumpet in 3rd person view with the Sing Like Nobody’s Listening Emote, which is available for purchase from the Pirate Emporium for Ancient Coins.
When the Speaking Trumpet is in hand, any Pirate Chat Commands will be turned into all Capital letters as if the Player was yelling in text.
Usage
The Speaking Trumpet has two interactions:
Amplify
Pressing the Primary Use button (
/
) with the Speaking Trumpet equipped will raise the narrow end to your pirate's mouth. In this state, it will amplify any sounds made by your Player Pirate, including Text and Voice Chat, allowing you to be heard by other players even at longer distances. The Speaking Trumpet's amplify function will not affect any communications between the user and other members of their own crew.
Whisper
Pressing the Secondary Use button (
/
) with the Speaking Trumpet equipped will raise the wide end to your pirate's mouth. In this state, any sounds made by your Player Pirate, including Text and Voice Chat will be quietened, allowing for only players within a close radius to be able to hear you. The Speaking Trumpet's whisper function will even affect communications between the user and other members of their own crew.

- The Speaking Trumpet should now appear correctly to other players when a player is holding it backwards.

- The Speaking Trumpet can now be held backwards by holding the Secondary Use button, allowing the user to whisper. While whispering, the range of proximity chat heard by other crews and chat heard by your own crew will be reduced, allowing for more private conversations.
